Controversial filmmaker Prakash Jha's upcoming flick ‘Aarakshan’ starring Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles and dealing with the sensitive issue of reservation, has finally been passed by the Censor Board with a U/A certificate. You may recall that the film was under the media scanner after the National Commission for Minorities and National Commission of Scheduled Castes and Dalit bodies had sought a special screening to confirm the film did not misinterpret the constitutional provision for reservations of the socially backward classes. However, Jha had just refused to oblige these bodies, and said that he could show it to the Censor Board only.
Now, he can heave a sigh of relief. This is another matter that the I&B Ministry official claims that the U/A certificate is awarded to the film after an examining committee, set up with representatives from the Dalit, OBC, SC and ST community, reviewed the movie. Member of Central Board of Film Certification Pankaj Sharma was the chairperson of the examining committee, the I&B official adds. As informed earlier in these columns, the film will release on August 12, 2011, coinciding with the Independence Day week celebrations.
