Rana is a forthcoming historical action film, co-written and directed by K. S. Ravikumar starring Rajinikanth, whose story the film will be based upon. The film will be jointly produced by Ocher Picture Productions and Eros International. The film will feature cinematography by R. Rathnavelu and music composed by A. R. Rahman. The film is expected to be made simultaneously in Hindi and dubbed in Telugu, all three of which are slated for release in 2012.
Despite the occurrence of principal photography, which took place on 29 April 2011, casting is still incomplete. During the first schedule of filming, Rajinikanth fell ill on sets and was admitted to hospital for over a month, resulting in an indefinite postponement of filming.
Here's some good news for fans of Rajinikanth. The Superstar, who returned to Chennai from Singapore early this month, is all set to begin shooting for his film Rana with K S Ravikumar soon. The actor is currently back in the city, recuperating from his illness, but well-informed sources say that he is eager to start shooting for his period film.
Confirming the news, director K S Ravikumar says, "Yes, shooting for Rana will begin sometime from October. We still haven't worked out the dates and the locations, but we will go on floors again by October. We're waiting for Rajini to get back on his feet. He's feeling a lot better these days and I will meet up with him sometime later to discuss the schedule. We don't want him to feel stressed out during shoots."
Rubbishing reports that he's getting sets erected in a famous studio in Hyderabad, he says, "Only work on the script and music is going on now. A R Rahman is working on the soundtrack and will also do the background score of the film. In fact, he's already composed a few songs for us."
It's worth mentioning that in a letter to his fans that the star wrote from Singapore, he had said, "I 100 per cent believe that the prayers that fans from across the globe offered for me were instrumental in my recovery. Entertaining them will be my sole aim and I will soon be back on screen with Rana."
